The Veuve Clicquot annual Polo Classic at Liberty State Park is for many the official kickoff of the summer social season, and, overpowering predicted rain showers, Saturday’s affair proved no different.

Having been ferried across the Hudson early in the sweltering afternoon, the preppiest among New York’s social crowd joined in alongside the usual celebrity attendees for the occasion.

“Riverdale” actor Casey Cott blotted himself with a paper towel between interviews, not far from where a publicist was liberally spraying a reporter in sunblock during the break in the action.

“Ooh, my first drip of boob sweat,” a woman in a crop top and flouncy skirt said to those around her, as she fixed her hair.

“Tequila shots to the face,” a seersuckered young man said buoyantly to his comrade upon their arrival. “You mean Champagne shots,” his friend countered him.

Yes, it was the drink of the afternoon, of course. After posing along the carpet, this year’s VIP crowd of Penelope Cruz, Sienna Miller, Sam Rockwell, Laura Harrier, Freida Pinto, Darren Criss, Winnie Harlow, Gayle King and more were ushered inside (where else?) the VIP tent for glasses of Champagne and shelter beneath chandeliers to mingle and take in the afternoon’s match.

A cavalcade of the top chefs in Las Vegas helped the 12th iteration of Vegas Uncorked by Bon Appétit took over the Strip over the weekend. Dozens of events at the Venetian and Palazzo, Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Caesars Palace, and The Park gave visitors a chance to explore the city and its restaurants and lounges in a completely different way.

Of course, the big event, the Grand Tasting, kicked off with at the Garden of the Gods with nearly 100 restaurants showcasing their fare.

Masaharu Morimoto is a world-famous chef and restaurateur best-known as a dominant force on the incredibly intense cooking competition show “Iron Chef.” To say he’s accustomed to the spotlight would be a bit of an understatement.

“I’m never very nervous, if it’s a live show or interview on TV or even singing,” he said last week from inside his Japanese restaurant at the MGM Grand. “I’ve done a demonstration of butchering a big tuna in front of 3,000 people. But this time, for Vegas Uncork’d, I’m doing the saber off and I’m not good. I’ve been practicing. There’s going to be a lot of media plus a lot of famous chefs behind me,” he said with a laugh and a sarcastic faux-scream of anxiousness.

The 12th Vegas Uncork’d by Bon Appétit event weekend is back on the Strip this week and the traditional kickoff has one of many celebrity chefs sabering the top off a bottle of Champagne. Morimoto, who opened his first Las Vegas restaurant in 2016, does the honors this year when one of Las Vegas’ biggest culinary events gets started May 10 at 1 p.m. at The Park, located between Las Vegas Boulevard and T-Mobile Arena.

Tina Brown’s ninth annual Women in the World Summit took place this weekend (April 12-14) in New York City, featuring compelling voices such as Hillary Clinton and Viola Davis, as well as student activists Delaney Tarr and Naomi Wadler. The summit, which was held at Lincoln Center, aimed to showcase “powerful new female role models whose personal stories illuminate the most pressing international issues.”

Gutierrez, two women who stood up to disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein. Parkland gun control activist Delaney Tarr, Liberian Nobel laureate Leymah Gbowee, restaurant workers’ activist Saru Jayaraman, and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi were some of the other big highlights.

From March 19-22, 30,000 business and tech professionals came to Las Vegas with one goal in mind: To attend IBM’s Think 2018 conference.

One of the remarkable things about Think 2018 that helped it stand out from similar conferences is it wasn’t overly specific. IBM’s campus-based concept centered on four themes, which were Modern Infrastructure, Business and AI, Security and Resiliency and Cloud and Data.

The goal was for people to streamline their learning by spending the majority of their conference time on the campus that matched their career goals or interests. Each area included a theater and networking area and opportunities to meet with experts and experience hands-on demonstrations.
