The Biggest Moments From the 2017 Women of the Year Awards

This year’s Women of the Year honorees cover a lot of bases—an astronaut, a supermodel, a refugee, an Oscar winner—but they’re all using their platforms to improve the lives of women everywhere. In a year that’s seemed especially hard for everyone, the trailblazers and icons we’ll hear from tonight represent the things we have to be thankful for right now.

Hosted by Billy Eichner at the beautiful Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, Glamour’s 2017 Women of the Year Awards was bigger than ever. Check out the biggest moments of the night…

Five things you missed at the Women in the World Summit, with Angelina Jolie and Justin Trudeau

In 2010, journalist and magazine editor Tina Brown hosted the first Women in the World Summit, a forum for business leaders, activists, politicians and pop culture luminaries to share their experiences and discuss how they could improve the lives of women and girls. Since that first event, Brown has hosted yearly summits across the U.S. and abroad, but last night was the first time it came to Canada. In her opening address, Brown spoke about women’s power to change the future. “When Patty Jenkins’s Wonder Woman crushed Iron Man at the box office, that was a harbinger,” Brown told the largely female crowd at the AGO. “We all knew what was coming.”

The marathon event featured more than 20 speakers, including Angelina Jolie, Justin Trudeau, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, foreign affairs minister Chrystia Freeland, Felicia Sanders (a survivor of the Charleston church shooting), Women’s March co-chair Tamika D. Mallory, and Loung Ung, the author of First They Killed My Father (a memoir turned TIFF film, directed by Jolie). Here, five highlights from the summit.

Kendall Jenner Drinks Rosé, Talks Safety Pin Earrings and Horses at Veuve Clicquot’s Polo Classic

There are a handful of sacred calendar days every year that you simply don’t mess with—the fourth Thursday in November is for Thanksgiving, the first Monday in May is for the Met Gala, and, as in-the-know New Yorkers have come to learn, the first Saturday June is reserved for one thing: Veuve Clicquot’s annual Polo Classic. Saturday’s festivities marked the 10th annual iteration of the brouhaha. It’s no secret that the party draws in a litany of A-listers, influencers, and Clicquot fans of all sorts—Nicole Kidman, Alessandra Balazs, Keri Russell, Lucy Hale, and Freida Pinto were just a few in the mix this year—but to mark this year’s 10th annual Champagne shower, VC upped its game by hiring none other than Kendall Jenner to make an appearance.

Inside the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic With Kendall Jenner, Nicole Kidman, and More

While Memorial Day might be the official kick-off to summer, those in the Tristate area know that the true start of the season comes a week later, with the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. Held at Liberty State Park, the yearly event sees celebrities donning their summer best for a sunny day of drinking Champagne, taking in the sport, and stomping the divots. As the match celebrated its tenth anniversary this year, this weekend’s event was even more star-studded, with guests including Nicole Kidman, Kendall Jenner, Priyanka Chopra, Frieda Pinto, Kate Mara, Lucy Hale, and more, culminating in a performance by Alicia Keys.

Inside the 10th Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic

“It’s beer and chicken wings for the Super Bowl, but it’s Champagne and lobster for the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic,” noted Nacho Figueras ahead of the annual event at Liberty State Park overlooking the Manhattan skyline Saturday. A decade ago the Argentinian-born player partnered with the French brand to bring the sport back to New York City for the first time since the Thirties.

“It’s a wonderful achievement and my next big goal is really to take this live-streaming [of the event] to the next level and hopefully get millions of people to tune in and thousands to show up,” he continued, brushing a hand through his tousled mop of brown hair.

For years, the daytime event has been the unofficial kickoff to outdoor summer events in and around the city. This year, the event did draw 1,000 more guests compared to last. “Hopefully, one day we’ll create something like the Kentucky Derby or the Super Bowl,” he added.

Escape to Miami: Inside a Champagne-Filled Miami Carnival With Adriana Lima

This weekend, while New York hit below zero temperatures and Paris dealt with perpetual rainstorms, sunny Miami, it would seem, was the place to be. Beyond the generally welcoming temperatures, it was also home to the third annual Veuve Clicquot Carnaval. The event was the perfect excuse for socially acceptable day drinking, with some of the proceeds going to support the Pérez Art Museum Miami. Aside from the endless Champagne, another was major was the event’s host committee, namely Adriana Lima, who played emcee for the Museum Park-held festivities. Also in attendance: Karolina Kurkova, Ana de Armas, Elza Gonzalez, and Daniela Botero. Come inside for a look at the samba dancers, drummers, live music, and azucar of the festivities.

This Is How Adriana Lima, Karolina Kurkova, and More Do Carnaval in Miami

Why go to Rio de Janeiro for Carnaval when Veuve Clicquot can bring Carnaval to you? That was the sentiment at Veuve Clicquot’s third annual star-studded bash held Saturday in support of Pérez Art Museum Miami. With Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima as grand marshal, the occasion brought that signature Carioca flair to Museum Park. In an homage to the international festivities in the land of Ordem e Progresso, guests like Karolina Kurkova, Eiza Gonzalez, and Ana de Armas enjoyed traditional Carnaval performances, including samba dancers, batucada drummers, and capoeira—a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music.
